R.j’S Soul Food & More

I was so happy that we had a chance to eat here on Sunday. My family enjoyed their meals so much that my mom took her empty plate back to the owner and said “nothing was good on my plate,” lol. It’s a good place to go for soul food and wings. The owners were all very nice and friendly.

My first time here at this location…it was pretty cool…it was smelling good from the outside so I pulled up…I was greeted by mommy & daughter with a warm welcome…they was super friendly an polite…I ordered the pork chop meal with the mango passion drink…it was delicious…I will definitely be back again for a second visit if I’m ever out in the country part of Georgia again…

This is my first time eating at R.J's Soulfood, but it won't be my last. The food was delicious. I had the moist, tender, fabulous barbecue chicken. I could not stop eating it. It literally fell off the bone. I was impressed and I don't impress easily. I also had the fried green tomatoes and black eyed peas. Oh my goodness. The fried green tomatoes weren't cooked fancy. They didn't have an oh so perfect crust. What they had was oh so perfect deliciousness..... and the blacked eyed peas were perfect. My only complaint would be that the as it should be made cornbread (Southern girl here) was just a little bit too small. All in all, "Well done, R.J's. Well done!"

My husband and I came across RJ's while seeking new locations and restaurants to visit. We've frequented many of the popular, highly-rated restaurants in Gwinnett County, so we chose to venture into Walton County, specifically the city of Monroe. We arrived around 6pm, just an hour before closing time. RJ's is obviously a local favorite spot. Several folk were in and out, picking up orders while we were there. Their sauced chicken wingettes are the crave. We tried them and do agree that the wings and flavors are very good. We tried honey-hot, lemiyaki [lemon pepper/teriyaki], and "twisted" [lemon pepper/garlic parmesan/ranch] mix. We also purchased slice of homemade sweet potato pie. They have an extensive menu containing several meats, vegetables, and sides. Apparently, Sunday is their BIG FEAST day, when most menu items are available. We were able to sample the new "Chuck Roast Dressing"...the bomb!!! It was well-seasoned with a great cornbread stuffing texture. The restaurant itself is small and quaint. It gave off an old country store feel, nothing fancy; just basic and ordinary. I easily associated it with my grandparents' home in rural Alabama. RJ's is located among a little strip of shops, in a slightly hidden part of Monroe, behind the Sheriff's Dept. There were a few tables inside, but they were pushed aside and had stuff stacked atop them; not available for client usage. There were 3 or 4 metal, umbrella tables outside, in the front, but I'm not fond of outdoor eating [unless it's a fully enclosed (with a screen of sorts) and protects me from flying insects and bugs]. The owner, Mrs. J was very kind and hospitable as we ordered and waited. She told us she's been in business 11 years. She and her daughter do much of the cooking themselves, with her daughter being the primary baker/ cheesecake maker. We were impressed enough to definitely return and give this place another go, when lots of menu items are available.

Fried pork chops to die (or kill) for. Lovely ladies are super friendly, and I can't wait to sample even more of their menu.

I went in for a veggie plate and they have made a loyal returning customer. I have not had soul food like this since my grandmother passed away 3 decades ago. This restaurant is all around wonderful.

What a great place! Food was fresh, made to order and delicious I ate fish and shrimp. I ordered coleslaw, it was perfect. I didn't expect french fries but they were great as well. Absolutely delicious overall. It was a nice pleasant positive atmosphere.

1st time had catfish it was good size and cooked just right!! Was hot and fresh
